Before planting our sunflowers we also encouraged our residents to decorate their pots to help build further on their creativity. This session helped to encourage the mothers to cook and bake showing it can be both fun and healthy.įor week 5 we have been getting our parent and child residents to plant sunflower seeds and we hope to watch them to see how big they can grow over the next few weeks of the summer. The use of repetitive language makes this book an excellent choice for developing the language skills of very young children. The text consists of short, repetitive phrases with only one rhyming sentence per page. The mums and babies then worked together to paint a range of pictures using their paints.įor week 4 of our Each, Peach, Pear, Plum Sessions we got involved in making fruit pies based on the pies they have at the end of the book. This classic picture book encourages young children to find nursery rhyme and fairy tale characters as they listen to the rhyming text. We then incorporated the different fruits from the book into our paint flavours, so the babies could enjoy the different smells of the fruits as well as promote healthy eating. We discussed the different fruits and the characters that are key in the book. This week at our Easy Peasy Pods Session we created homemade edible paint with different fruity smells. Both parents and children got involved and worked together with the decorating, using a range of coloured paper, paint, tissue paper and glitter.ĭuring our session we also began to plan a trip to the park for a picnic and an afternoon of spotting animals with our new telescopes. This was our first week reading Each, Peach, Pear, Plum, which we discovered was a childhood favourite of many of our residents here.Īfter starting to read the book and admiring the illustrations we then began to get creative and made telescopes out of recycled items found around the house.
